History
“Do what others do not” – This management philosophy has been maintained and inherited throughout the history of Imuraya. Imuraya has developed from a family operation to a corporate business. This page shows more than 120 years of Imuraya history, from its foundation to today.

1896Confectionery store, “Imuraya” founded.
The founder, Wazo Imura, became interested in Japanese confectionery and tried to make “Yokan,” a Japanese jelly made of Azuki bean paste.
He made Yokan by using a meal tray called “Yamadazen,” and began selling this as “Yamadazen-Yokan.” Though it did not have much money, Imuraya began with a product produced by focusing on ingenuity. -
1947From a simple family operation to a full pledged company – Established IMURAYA CO., LTD.
IMURAYA CO., LTD. was established by the eldest son, Jiro Imura, and twenty-one of his fellow soldiers. -
1973Entered the food service business
The first Anna Miller’s restaurant was opened in Aoyama, Tokyo.
Manufacturing and sales of Azuki Bar Ice Cream began. -
1978Entered the seasoning business (currently IMURAYA FOODS CO., LTD.)

1997Made its stock market debut, listed in the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

2000Established KYO-NICHI IMURAYA FOODS CO., LTD. (JIF)
As the Imuraya’s first overseas base, JIF started producing and distributing seasoning products. -

Began production and distribution of castella cake products targeting the Chinese market. -
2009Established IMURAYA USA, INC. (IMU)

2010 Converted to the holding company system
Corporate name changed to IMURAYA GROUP CO., LTD. -
2014Established IMURAYA (DALIAN) FOODS CO., LTD. (IDF)
IDF produces liquid and powdered seasoning products using natural ingredient extracts, such as vegetables. -
2017Listed in the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the Nagoya Stock Exchange

2018 Established IMURAYA (BEIJING) Corporate Management Co., Ltd. (ICM)

2018 Completed AZUKI FACTORY
This new factory was created for the further evolution of Azuki products. Equipped with a consistent production line and various Azuki paste processing facilities consisting of selection, washing, and processing, this factory focuses on the attributes of“tasty and healthy.” -
2019 Established IMURAYA START-UP PLANNING CO., LTD.
This company aims to create businesses that can serve as the future core for the Imuraya Group.
Entered the alcohol beverage market
Entered the alcohol beverage market by acquiring 100% ownership of Fukui Syuzo Co., Ltd., .
Established IMURAYA MALAYSIA SDN. BHD. -
2020 Completed co-generation facilities
Imuraya introduced co-generation facilities with the perspective of energy conservation revolving around local energy production and consumption, CO2 reduction, business continuity in case of disaster, and community involvement. -
